Nestled by our famous lake and a short stroll from the beach, Albert Park is known for its charming village style atmosphere. Our little corner of the world also boasts a wide variety of food and dining choices to match our bayside appeal. From bustling cafes serving up Melbourne’s renowned brunch and coffee culture to more sophisticated eateries for a special night out, Albert Park has lot’s to offer. From a locals perspective we are spoilt for choice when choosing about places to eat. Here’s my top 10 places to eat in Albert Park. It’s an eclectic mix of trendy cafe brunch, fine dining, sushi like your in Japan and relaxed dinner options. As a local I know and love than all!
1. Atta
4 times awarded a chef’s hat from the Australian Good food Guide, Atta restaurant is a must try. Located at the beach end of Victoria Avenue, this restaurant is easily accessible on the No 1 tram if you are coming from outside Albert Park. Atta is known for its stylish presentation of traditional Indian food. The service is friendly and professional. This is a popular destination restaurant so be sure to book a table as it can get busy. Signature Indian dishes are cooked and presented with a modern flair. There are also gluten free and loads of vegetarian options.

We highly recommend the Jingo Pakora and Dirty Samosa’s to start followed by the Murgh Chettinad (perfectly spiced chicken dish), Beef Do Pyaza and the ever popular Palak Paneer with any of the 3 Biriyani options. Unlike many other Indian restaurants, Atta does desserts exquisitely. Try the Dark Chocolate Torte with 70.5% dark chocolate presented with chocolate mouse, mango sorbet, butterscotch, orange foam and strawberry gel. A sheer delight! Can’t get there to dine in? No problems there is a takeaway option. The takeaway menu is not as broad as the dining room offerings however is a great way to experience this exceptional Indian experience.

2. Brother Shota
Brother Shota is my personal favourite. It is a friendly Japanese restaurant well-known for putting a modern and creative spin on classic Japanese food. It has a cozy and welcoming vibe and offers outdoor seating when the weather allows for al fresco dining. It is a firm favourite with locals so make sure you book ahead if you are visiting, short of time and don’t want to miss out.

My top picks here are the Rock ‘n’ Roll Shushi, Yakiniku BBQ Wagyu Don Rice Bowl and the Crispy Eggplant with Apple Miso. Everything is super fresh and all dishes are beautifully presented by the kitchen. I never leave without a Miso soup and Edamame!!

3 . Bleakhouse Hotel
The Bleakhouse Hotel offers is a great option for a relaxed pub-style meal. Located right at the end of Victoria Parade it looks across to the beach and if you ask for table by the window it’s a great place to watch the sun setting over the water. Depending on the time of day be prepared for a bit of traffic on Beaconsfield Parade within your view as well! The food menu changes seasonally and features a range of options from elevated pub fare like a proper Sunday roast and fish and chips, to a seasonal grill and fresh seafood. The venue’s warm atmosphere, complete with moody lighting, fireplace and a front and back bar to catch a sporting match with friends on the large screen, makes it a popular spot for both a casual catch-up and a special occasion. The drinks menu caters for all tastes. The extensive wine menu offers 100+ bottle wine options with wines by the glass, half bottle or bottle. Cocktail and cocktail jugs are popular for groups and a wide range of local tap beers make for a great place to linger and enjoy the beachside vide.

Thursday nights steak night is great value with a porterhouse, accompanied by fries, a decent sized salad and sauce for under $30. The Cheeseburger with smoked bacon and thousand island dressing never disappoints . One of our favourites is the crumbed chicken schnitzel with a succulent chicken breast deep fried to perfection and loaded with a sumptuous salad of cabbage slaw, parmesan and Caesar dressing – I had to ask for a box to take leftovers home.

4 . Italian Artisans
Get ready to feel like you’ve been transported straight to a backstreet in Italy when you step into Italian Artisan. This isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a true Italian experience inspired by the founder Tony’s father who introduced him to the world of pizza. The vibe is rustic, authentic and welcoming and the food is brilliantly simple and delicious made with Italian love – belissima! Their pizzas are the star of the show, made with top-quality, traditional ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, sopressa and pantellaria capers on light and airy bases. It’s not just about the pizza—they also serve an incredible antipasti, fresh salads, and a tiramisu that that can’t be passed up. It’s the perfect place for couples or families to linger over a great meal, with a vino Bianchi or Rossi or one of their on point aperitivi’s in hand whilst people watching the passing Victoria Avenue traffic – just like you would in Italy!

We like to start with antipasti generally with the warm olives from Siciliy & Liguria, tomatoes and burrata and when we are with a group we include a maxi salumi board. We love to share pizza’s and our go to are the classic Margherita, Porcini with Truffle Oil and Capricciosa with both the salad options – Rocket and Radicchio. It’s always a toss up on whether to finish with another cheeky glass of vino or the spectacular Nutella Calzoncino (Nutella pizza!) with vanilla bean gelato……sometimes its both!

5 . Albert Park Deli
You haven’t truly experienced Albert Park until you’ve visited Albert Park Deli. This isn’t just a place to grab a bite; it’s a neighbourhood institution. Started in 1974 by a local family, the deli is known and loved as a staple for great food and coffee. Nestled right in Albert Park Village it’s a great option for breakfast, a long lingering lunch or for a takeaway meal that is as good as homemade. The deli is a sensory delight, with shelves overflowing with imported goods, from olives and cheeses to gourmet pasta and sauces. It goes without saying that the coffee is great – it is a Melbourne cafe after all! Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee, building a picnic basket, or settling in for a more substantial lunch cooked by the chef and his team in the busy kitchen, the friendly team at the deli always makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.

The breakfast offering has all bases covered form porridge, yogurt and fruit and eggs, bacon and pastries. My favourites are the zucchini halloumi fritters, smoked salmon poached eggs or the crumpets with lemon ricotta, honey and pistachio – hard to pass up! For a quick lunch I try the changing baguette offering or for something more substation the lasagna and salad never disappoints and the cheesy risotto pumpkin stracciatella, vincotto is another fav!

6 . Chez Bagou
A little further along the village, Chez Bagou is a great option for anyone who loves incredible French food in a setting that’s both elegant and wonderfully unpretentious. The menu is a love letter to French cuisine, with classic dishes like escargots, confit duck, and crème brûlée all executed to perfection. It’s the kind of place where the wine flows, the conversation lingers, and you feel like you’ve had a special experience. With its crisp white tablecloths, muted lighting and modern French aesthetic, this small local bistro is great for a mid week meal or for a celebration with a crowd. There is a private dining space upstairs or the option of the terrace on warmer nights.

I love the traditional French onion soup with its sweet and salty onion and warm broth to start. Other great starters are the Fried Calamari with Chipotle Aioli or the Croquette of the Day. We can’t go past the Grass Fed Scotch or Eye Fillet with Pomme Frites or the Chicken Vol au Vent with Spinach and Morel Sauce. Another delightful dish particularly during the Melbourne winter is the hearty Classic Beef Bourguignon with Parisian Creamy Mashed Potato. There is a largish dessert/cheese menu to choose from to finish the meal. When indulging with dessert it seems fitting to finish a French meal with the traditional vanilla Crème Brulée that Chez Bagou does so well.

We enjoyed a banquet in a group. Each dish was perfectly presented and mouth watering! The San Choi Bao was a stand out starter. The Dim Sum selection offered a choice so we divided them to taste each of the different flavours. Each one oozed fresh and tasty flavours….Our mains were generous and we shared the Kung Pao Chicken with crunchy roasted peanuts, traditional Sweet and Sour Pork and divinely fresh Steamed Wombok and ginger all accompanied by steamed rice. I don’t normally go for dessert in a Chinese restaurant however the finishing act of 5 Spice Donut including oolong soy caramel with vanilla ice cream couldn’t be bypassed!

8. Dundas & Faussett
With a prime central corner location in the middle of Albert Park village, Dundas & Faussett is a local favourite that effortlessly blends Melbourne café culture with a unique, modern twist. The space itself is bright and inviting, with a contemporary, minimalist vibe and plenty of outdoor seating perfect for a sunny day and some people watching! The menu is where things get really interesting, offering way more than your typical brekkie and brunch fare. You’ll find all the classics, of course, but the real showstoppers are the dishes with a serious southeast asian flair, including an amazing wok menu with everything from Pad Thai to Nasi Goreng. Whether you’re craving a classic all-day breakfast, a creative and flavourful lunch, or just a really good coffee, this place consistently delivers and always has a great buzz
Dundas & Faussett – what we like to eat
While you can order a classic breakfast or lunch, what sets Dundas & Faussett apart is the fusion of traditional café fare with bold southeast asian flavours. You’ll find standard brekkie and lunch favourites like bircher muesli, eggs anyway, BLT Sandwich and an array of salads and sides (fries included!), focaccia’s and wraps right alongside dishes with a serious Asian kick. We love anything on the Wok Menu with the Tom Yum Soup and Pad Thai being staples on our order. We’ve also enjoyed the Nasi Goreng with chicken and prawns and the beautiful Penang Curry of Braised Beef.
